We are sad to announce the demise of Prof. P. Ramachandra Rao. He died on Jan 10 at Coimbatore due to a heart attack. He was 67 year old. He is survived by his wife, a son and a daughter.

Prof. P. Ramachandra Rao was a world renowned metallurgist. He had unique distinction of the only Vice-Chancellor (2002-05) of Banaras Hindu University who was also a student (1963-68) and faculty (1964-92) at the university.

The year 2009 was a very important year in our alumni associations history. This year the association took many steps to put a structure around the hither to amorphous structure of the association while under taking multiple efforts to bring alumni and the Institute closer.

Global Organization. The organization initiated the creation of Council of Representatives where each class (ECE 79 or MEC 84 etc) nominated one representative to the council.

In continuation of its long tradition of hosting semi-annual meets in the bay area, the ITBHUGAA Silicon Valley Chapter successfully organized yet another alumni meet on 1st Nov. 2009.

The theme this time was markedly different from the last Holi meet, which was characterized by dance and live music performances. The get-together was held in the lush Central Park location in Santa Clara and featured several outdoor events.

Nikesh Arora, President of Global Sales Operations and Business Development at Google (covered here earlier), spoke at the Hindustan Times Leadership Summit on October 30th.
